Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has formed the ‘High-Amount Delinquent Tax Special Collection One Team’ to collect overdue taxes and fines, and will undertake strong delinquent tax collection activities throughout this year.
As of 2024, there are 2,980 high-amount delinquent taxpayers in Songpa-gu with arrears of 3 million KRW or more, and the total delinquent amount is 29.2 billion KRW. This accounts for only 3% of all delinquent taxpayers but represents 48.7% of the total delinquent amount.
Accordingly, on March 4, the district launched the ‘High-Amount Delinquent Tax Special Collection One Team’ (hereafter, the Collection Team). Led by experienced team leader-level officials, two teams have been organized to conduct weekly on-site visits and livelihood surveys. The plan is to continue collection activities aiming to collect a total of 4 billion KRW by the end of this year.
The district has expressed a strong determination to root out delinquent taxpayers who live extravagantly or conceal assets despite having the ability to pay through the Collection Team.
Specific administrative sanctions such as travel bans, public disclosure of names, provision of public record information, restrictions on licensed businesses, and prosecution of special collection non-compliance offenders will also be implemented.
In addition, all members of the delinquent tax collection team will work in pairs to travel to district courts nationwide to actively conduct on-site collection activities, such as recovering hidden dividends and deposits.
Through these efforts, last year the district successfully collected the full delinquent amounts of 26 million KRW from high-amount delinquent taxpayer Mr. A (82) and 24 million KRW from Mr. B (33), totaling 3.612 billion KRW, achieving 107.9% of the target.
