Muan-gun Signs Investment Agreement with 7 Compound Semiconductor Companies

Investment Agreement of 134 Billion KRW in Muan Aviation Specialized Industrial Complex... Creation of 250 Jobs

Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 28th that it has signed an investment agreement with Jeollanam-do and seven compound semiconductor companies.

Through this agreement, 134 billion KRW will be invested in compound semiconductor design, components, equipment, and packaging within the Muan Aviation Specialized Industrial Complex (MRO Complex), creating approximately 250 jobs.

Compound semiconductors are essential core components needed to foster national advanced strategic industries such as aerospace and telecommunications, and global demand is increasing.

Last year, the Compound Semiconductor Center was established for the first time in Korea at Mokpo National University (located in Muan County) and opened in December, laying the foundation for a compound semiconductor ecosystem. The county plans to develop this ecosystem centered around the Muan Aviation Specialized Industrial Complex.

In particular, Muan County is concentrating administrative efforts with Jeollanam-do to designate the Muan Aviation Specialized Industrial Complex as a "Semiconductor and Aviation Maintenance Opportunity Development Special Zone."

Scheduled for completion in April, the Muan Aviation Specialized Industrial Complex is a transportation hub with access to Muan International Airport, the key airport in the southwestern region, two expressways, Mokpo Port, and the KTX high-speed train line opening in 2025. Additionally, three universities with excellent human resources are located nearby, making it an optimal investment location.

Governor Kim San stated, "Through this investment agreement, we will actively support the Muan Aviation Specialized Industrial Complex to become a mecca for the MRO industry and compound semiconductor industry, serving as a key hub for aviation maintenance, logistics, and next-generation semiconductors in the southwestern region of Jeollanam-do."
