Hamancheon Selected for Water Quality Improvement Project of Polluted Rivers by Ministry of Environment Competition
A Total Project Cost of 78.8 Billion KRW Invested Over 5 Years... The Only Selection in the Province
Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 28th that Hamancheon Stream has been selected as a project target in the Ministry of Environment's public contest project, the "13th (2025-2029) Polluted River Improvement Project," with a total project cost of 78.8 billion KRW (40.2 billion KRW in national funds) to be invested over five years.
The Polluted River Improvement Project is a short-term intensive support initiative for various projects aimed at improving river water quality and restoring aquatic ecosystems, such as sewage pipeline maintenance and installation of small-scale sewage treatment facilities. Hamancheon Stream is the only stream selected in the Gyeongnam area.
Hamancheon Stream is a tributary flowing into the Namgang River, part of the Nakdong River basin, and has required water quality improvement measures due to nearby livestock farms and inflow of untreated sewage from unprocessed sewage areas.
Accordingly, this public contest project will help secure a safe water source and create a pleasant waterfront space.
The integrated and focused polluted river improvement project is a Ministry of Environment water quality improvement initiative that provides intensive support over five years for sewage system maintenance, non-point pollution reduction projects, and more. This year, four rivers nationwide, including Hamancheon Stream, were selected.
