Xi Jinping to Meet US Business CEOs in Beijing Tomorrow
Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to meet with CEOs of major U.S. companies on the 27th, according to consecutive reports from foreign media.
On the 26th, Bloomberg News reported that U.S. top executives visiting Beijing to attend the China Development Forum are adjusting their schedules to meet with President Xi.
Bloomberg cited three anonymous sources saying that although the written invitation did not explicitly mention President Xi's name, there was an implicit agreement that he would attend the meeting. This meeting is separate from the high-level forum of the China Development Forum.
The meeting was reportedly proposed directly by Evan Greenberg, CEO of Chubb, the world's largest property and casualty insurer.
A CEO expected to attend said the meeting is part of the Chinese government's efforts to improve relations based on conversations held at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco last November. At that time, President Xi attended a dinner hosted by the U.S.-China Business Council and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and this meeting is considered a follow-up to that event.
Earlier, on the 21st, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that after the forum, President Xi plans to meet with Evan Greenberg, Steven Orlins, president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, Craig Allen, president of the U.S.-China Business Council, and other U.S. business figures.
With foreign investment last year falling to its lowest level in 30 years, the Chinese government is making efforts to expand investment attraction. As part of this, on the 22nd, regulations that strictly controlled overseas data transfers by companies citing security reasons were relaxed. These regulations had raised concerns for excessively regulating foreign companies.
