Gwangju Dong-gu Launches Night Tourism Project with 28 Billion KRW Investment
Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that the 'Art-Integrated Night Tourism Space Production Project' being promoted in the Mudeungsan Uijae Cultural Heritage Area has passed the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's central investment review, marking the start of full-scale project implementation.
The 'Art-Integrated Night Tourism Space Production Project' is a project to restore and maintain the Mudeungsan Uijae Cultural Heritage Area and the Chunsul tea fields by 2027 with an investment of 28 billion KRW. The main components include ▲ Chunsul Tea Museum (exhibition space and cafe) ▲ Uijae House (meditation experience space) ▲ Heo Baek-ryeon Cultural Hall (Chunsul tea experience workshop) ▲ Owl Garden and Chunsul tea fields, and ▲ various programs such as Uijae Garden Tour, Owl Moonlight Journey, and Chunsul Tea Field Experience to activate stay-type tourism.
Previously, Dong-gu sought to include the restoration project of the Uijae Cultural Heritage Area in the 'Southern Region Metropolitan Tourism Development Plan,' a mega project with a budget of 3 trillion KRW over 10 years until 2033, designated as a key project of the current government. Last year, it completed consecutive new subsidy project reviews by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and with the final approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's investment review, the project gained momentum.
Dong-gu expects that, taking this investment review approval as an opportunity, the project will proceed with design procedures for infrastructure construction from the second half of this year, and once full-scale construction begins, Mudeungsan?rich in ecological and humanities resources?will transform into a new premium tourism hub combined with regional identity, revitalizing the local economy.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "Despite the recent reduction in national budgets allocated to local governments, passing the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's investment review has provided the driving force for Mudeungsan to become a key hub for tourism activation in the southwestern region." He added, "We will do our best to establish Dong-gu as a stay-type cultural tourism city centered on the three major tourism axes of National Asia Culture Center, Mudeungsan National Park, and Jisan Amusement Park."
