Yoon Meets with 6 Members of US House CSGK Delegation
Requests Continued Support for Advancing Korea-US Alliance
CSGK "Actively Leading Legislative Efforts Related to Korea"
President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 25th requested the Korea Study Group (CSGK) delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives to "cooperate in passing the professional visa quota bill within the Congress to ensure that our skilled professionals and youth can smoothly enter the United States."
According to the presidential office, President Yoon made these remarks while meeting with six members of the CSGK delegation in the afternoon and exchanging views on cooperation measures with the U.S. Congress for the development of the Korea-U.S. alliance. The CSGK is a bipartisan research group related to Korea within the U.S. Congress, launched in February 2018, with about 80 members from both the House and Senate participating.
The lawmakers visiting Korea this time are Ami Bera CSGK House co-chair (Democrat, California, 6 terms, House Foreign Affairs Committee Indo-Pacific Subcommittee ranking member), Young Kim CSGK House co-chair (Republican, California, 2 terms, House Foreign Affairs Committee Indo-Pacific Subcommittee chair), Raul Ruiz (Democrat, California, 6 terms), Dan Newhouse (Republican, Washington, 5 terms), Chrissy Houlahan (Democrat, Pennsylvania, 3 terms), and Deborah Ross (Democrat, North Carolina, 2 terms).
President Yoon said, "I welcome the visit of the Korea Study Group delegation, the group of lawmakers in the U.S. Congress who love Korea the most," expressing gratitude that CSGK has been a strong supporter of the Korea-U.S. alliance and has made great efforts to expand the support base for the alliance within the U.S. Congress and promote the development of bilateral relations."
He then referred to the warm welcome shown by U.S. House and Senate members during his state visit to the U.S. in April last year, asking, "I request the unwavering support and encouragement of the visiting lawmakers so that the Korea-U.S. global comprehensive strategic alliance based on universal values can advance more vigorously toward the future."
In particular, he said, "Economic cooperation, including active investments by companies from both countries, is becoming the foundation for future growth engines of both nations," and requested "the special attention of the U.S. Congress to support the activities of our companies operating across the United States."
The CSGK visiting delegation responded, "The U.S. Congress supports the Korea-U.S. alliance on a bipartisan basis, and especially the CSGK, which has a special interest and affection for Korea and Korea-U.S. relations, is actively leading legislative activities related to Korea, including the professional visa quota bill, and will do its best to develop the Korea-U.S. alliance."
