National Route 1 Pyeongtaek-si Section Speed Limit Raised from 50 to 60 km/h
From the 1st of next month, applied to the section from Bije Underpass Intersection to Ojwa Intersection
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it will raise the speed limit from 50 km/h to 60 km/h on a 23 km section between Bijeon Underpass Intersection and Ojwa Intersection on National Route 1 starting from the 1st of next month to alleviate vehicle congestion.
National Route 1 is a major arterial axis connecting the north and south of Pyeongtaek. The city explained that the speed limit increase is due to worsening vehicle congestion caused by increased traffic volume traveling between Suwon and Asan in Chungnam, as well as increased traffic within the Pyeongtaek area. The city added that there is also confusion because the speed limit in the eastern urban area of Pyeongtaek is 50 km/h, while the speed limit in the rural areas is 60 km/h.
The city plans to adjust the signal operation system, including the interlocking system, in line with the speed limit increase and will also replace speed limit signs. Additionally, based on future vehicle speed and traffic volume surveys, the city plans to promote raising speed limits on other major arterial roads and urban main roads in Pyeongtaek, such as National Route 38 and Local Route 317.
