For a Better Daily Life... Continuous Efforts to Realize a Cohesive Yeongdeungpo
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will significantly strengthen policies to stabilize the lives of people with disabilities in the area and promote their participation in social activities, continuing its commitment to accompany the vulnerable.
2024 Disabled Residents' Autonomous Program Operation
First, the district plans to expand equal opportunities for education and cultural experiences for people with disabilities by linking with the 'Residents' Autonomous Program' operated at local community centers, supporting the development and operation of programs that include both disabled and non-disabled participants.
Currently, courses such as ▲Disabled Pungmulnori (traditional Korean percussion performance), ▲Harmonica classes, and ▲Stretching and line dance are offered. This year, a new program was established in Yangpyeong 2-dong, bringing the total to five neighborhoods (Yeoui-dong, Dangsan 1-dong, Dorim-dong, Yangpyeong 2-dong, Singil 7-dong) where the programs are operated. The district plans to continue developing programs according to residents' needs.
2024 Agreement on the Provision of Assistive Devices for People with Disabilities
Additionally, to support independent living and promote social participation of people with disabilities, the district signed an agreement with the Seoul Southwest Assistive Device Center to establish a systematic support system for assistive devices. Before providing devices, customized consultations and preliminary evaluations are conducted to supply assistive devices suitable for each individual's type of disability.
2024 Repair Cost Support for Wheelchairs and Other Devices for People with Disabilities
To alleviate the financial burden and secure mobility for people with disabilities, repair costs for electric assistive devices such as wheelchairs and scooters will be supported. For basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income disabled individuals, up to 300,000 KRW per year is provided, and for general registered disabled persons, up to 100,000 KRW per year is supported. Applications can be made within the support amount limit regardless of the number of repairs. Repairable items include tires, headlights, brakes, etc., excluding parts installed separately by individuals.
Currently, there are six designated repair shops in the area with specialized knowledge of assistive devices. Residents can visit their local community center to apply for repair cost support.
2024 Support for Safety Insurance Enrollment for Electric Assistive Devices for People with Disabilities
Furthermore, to ensure the stability of people with disabilities, the 'Safety Insurance Enrollment Support Project for Electric Assistive Devices for People with Disabilities,' which began last year, will expand the coverage limit from 20 million KRW to 50 million KRW, the highest limit among local governments nationwide, starting this year. The target beneficiaries are electric assistive device users registered as residents of Yeongdeungpo-gu, who can receive insurance benefits up to 50 million KRW for third-party damage compensation occurring during use.
