Candidate Kim Jong-min: "I Will Lead the Amendment to Establish a District Court in Sejong City"
"To Convince Whips in the 21st National Assembly to Handle It in the 22nd National Assembly"
Kim Jong-min, the New Future candidate for the National Assembly representing Sejong City Gap district, announced on the 24th, "I will establish a district court in Sejong City."
In a press release on the same day, Candidate Kim stated, "I will pass the 'Partial Amendment to the Act on the Establishment and Jurisdiction of Courts at Various Levels (Court Establishment Act)' related to the establishment of the Sejong District Court within the term of the 21st National Assembly."
He added, "Despite the continuous increase in Sejong City's population and the rise in cases, a court befitting its status has not been established."
According to Candidate Kim, the bill to establish the Sejong District Court is currently pending in the 1st Subcommittee of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly, and the committee plans to discuss the related bill in the subcommittee shortly after the general election.
Jeong Jeom-sik, the secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee from the People Power Party, said at the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Chief Justice nominee Cho Hee-dae in December last year, "It is time to comprehensively review the amendment to the Court Organization Act necessary for establishing a court in Sejong City."
In response, then Supreme Court Chief Justice nominee Cho Hee-dae also expressed a positive stance, saying, "I would like the court itself to propose the establishment of a Sejong City court to the National Assembly first."
