Jo Myung-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, participated as the chief officiant in the 62nd Jinhae Gunhangje Lee Chungmugong Memorial Ceremony, honoring the spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and praying for the safety and prosperity of the festival.

View original imageThe Lee Chungmugong Memorial Ceremony, held on the 23rd at the special altar in Bukwon Rotary, Jinhae-gu, began in 1953 when the first statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin was erected at Bukwon Rotary and a memorial rite was conducted. Since 1963, it has been held as part of the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, with the memorial ceremony taking place on the first day of the festival each year to continue the tradition.
The event opened with a disciplined demonstration by the Navy Jinhae Honor Guard and the beautiful harmony of the Jinhae Women's Choir. The officiants of the ritual were Jo Myung-rae, 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, as the chief officiant; Park Ik-sook, Chief of Staff of the Navy Jinhae Base Command, as the second officiant; and Kim Hwan-tae, Chairman of the Lee Chungmugong Promotion Gunhangje Committee, as the third officiant.
During the ritual, accompanied by the performance of ritual music by the Navy Education Command Gugak Ensemble and the proceedings led by the master of ceremonies, not only the officiants but also the citizens and foreigners watching the event stood up together and bowed deeply, adding to the solemnity of the memorial.
