Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has completed the 'Jamsil Hosugyo Observatory Rest Area,' which offers a panoramic view of the cherry blossoms in full bloom at Seokchon Lake, on the opening day of the Lake Cherry Blossom Festival on the 27th, preparing to welcome spring visitors.
The 'Jamsil Hosugyo Observatory Rest Area' is the first tangible achievement of the 'Songpa-daero Premium Street Development,' a key project of the 8th local government administration. The district will now actively expand the 1.5km section named 'Songpa Avenue,' from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market Intersection, into a vibrant and walkable 'garden' starting with this observatory rest area.
The observatory rest area is located on the Jamsil Hosugyo bridge, the starting point of Songpa-daero, to encourage lake visitors to continue their walk to Garak Market. Although the site is open on all sides, making it an ideal scenic spot, it had more significance as a 10-lane road for vehicles rather than a pedestrian walkway due to low foot traffic.
Accordingly, the district revitalized the previously dull and barren bridge by introducing various elements such as glass railings, landscape lighting, and floor paving to transform it into a popular space for visitors to Seokchon Lake.
First, the ordinary railings were replaced with transparent glass railings that provide an open view, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the surrounding scenery. Using sleek and sophisticated aluminum materials and tempered glass capable of withstanding high loads, the design ensures both aesthetics and safety without compromise.
Additionally, nighttime landscape lighting was installed on the bridge’s railings and underside to enhance the lake’s night scenery and improve illumination. This also serves to guide visitors walking along the waterfront to the observatory rest area where they can climb the stairs and rest.
Moreover, the floor was freshly paved using the city brand’s representative colors, 'Songpa Green' and 'Songpa Brown,' and flower pots were arranged to showcase vibrant seasonal flowers throughout the year.
With the installation of modern steel benches, the observatory rest area, where scenery and relaxation harmonize, is expected to transform into the district’s new 'photo spot hotspot.'
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “The completion of the Jamsil Hosugyo Observatory Rest Area marks the official start of the ‘Songpa-daero Premium Street Development Project,’ which connects the light pink cherry blossom path of Seokchon Lake Park to Garak Market Intersection. We hope many people visit to enjoy the beautiful scenery and recharge their lives amid busy daily routines.”
