Jindo-gun Secures 5 Billion KRW for 'Kim Industry Promotion Zone Designation' Project
Designated as the Nation's Largest Gim Production Area... Contributing to the Development and Globalization of the Gim Industry
Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Hee-su) announced on the 22nd that it has been finally selected in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' public contest for the designation of the '2024 Gim Industry Promotion Zone.'
The '2024 Gim Industry Promotion Zone' is a public contest project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries with a total budget of 5 billion KRW. It aims to systematically foster and support the gim industry by designating areas where conditions for the growth of the gim industry need to be established as promotion zones.

Jindo-gun, which has the largest gim farms nationwide, designated 4,420 hectares of clean offshore gim farming grounds and six export-specialized gim processing factories within its 16,128 hectares as the project target area. Based on the stable production of Jindo Gopchang-gim and Cham-gim raw materials, it plans to build an integrated production, processing, and export industrial system, while simultaneously securing diverse consumer groups through premium branding.

Governor Kim Hee-su stated, “Along with the designation of the Gim Industry Promotion Zone, the Jindo Specialized Fisheries Research Institute, also known as the ‘Regional Customized Fisheries Seed Practical Application Center,’ which was selected in the November contest, will distribute gim seeds suitable for the Jindo sea to fishermen. Through the stable production of Jindo gim, which is the best in quantity and quality nationwide, we plan to further promote Jindo gim globally.” He added, “Furthermore, we will take the lead in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ K-Blue Food ‘1 Billion USD Gim Export Industrialization’ initiative.”
