Fair Trade Commission Appoints Kim Jeong-gi as Director of Market Surveillance Bureau and Standing Commissioner
Successor to Committee Member Jeong Jin-wook after Term Expiration
The Fair Trade Commission announced on the 21st that it will newly appoint Kim Jeong-gi, Director of the Market Surveillance Bureau, as a standing commissioner.
This appointment follows the expiration of the term of former standing commissioner Jeong Jin-wook. Commissioner Kim's term will run from the 22nd of this month until March 21, 2027.
After passing the 37th Administrative Examination, Commissioner Kim entered public service in 1995 and has held key positions in major incident and policy departments, including Director of the Cartel Investigation Bureau, Director of the Corporate Group Bureau, Director of the Competition Policy Bureau, and Director of the Market Surveillance Bureau.
To eradicate private education cartels, he took strict measures against unfair advertising practices by major academies and publishers, and contributed to creating a fair market environment trusted by consumers by imposing the largest fine under the Electronic Commerce Act for Nexon Korea's deceptive practices regarding probability-type game items.
He led sanctions against Broadcom for abuse of power against Samsung Electronics in the semiconductor market, imposed the largest fine for rebate practices by Chongwoo Pharmaceutical, and conducted investigations into numerous domestic and international platform markets, including overseas distribution platforms.
While serving as Director of the Competition Policy Bureau, he contributed to establishing fair trade order and competitive conditions in the market by laying the legal foundation for the Compliance Program (CP).
Commissioner Kim is evaluated as combining ability and character by carrying out work strictly and swiftly with a clear distinction between public and private interests, while maintaining smooth human relations with staff.

The Fair Trade Commission expressed expectations that "based on his experience and expertise accumulated in the fields of fair trade and consumer protection, he will contribute to the future development of the FTC's adjudication system."
