Changwon Special City Congratulates Jomin-gyeong and Jeong Taeyoung on Korea's First World Curling Championship Victory
2024 World Wheelchair Curling Championship Victory
On the 20th, Changwon City in Gyeongnam Special City held a congratulatory event at the office for Cho Min-kyung and Jeong Tae-young, members of the Changwon City Hall wheelchair curling team, who won Korea's first-ever world curling championship.
Mayor Hong Nam-pyo encouraged the athletes by placing flower garlands on Cho Min-kyung and Jeong Tae-young, who elevated the city's honor, and presented them with prize money. He also expressed gratitude to the coaches and related personnel.
The two athletes donated the mini curling stones they received at the competition to the city.
Cho Min-kyung and Jeong Tae-young, Korea's first wheelchair curling couple national representatives, won the 2024 World Wheelchair Curling Championship mixed doubles (mixed two-person team) held on the 16th in Gangneung City by defeating the Chinese team 8 to 3.
This gold medal victory holds great significance as the first-ever world championship win in both disabled and non-disabled curling competitions.
The proud athletes stated, "Our ultimate goal is to work hard and compete in the 2026 Winter Paralympics, proudly waving the Taegeukgi. We will prepare step by step from national team selection to competition participation."
