Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Welcomes and Thanks Government Announcement on Promotion of Jeonnam Medical School Establishment
"Collecting Local Opinions and Preparing New Proposals... Will Coordinate with the Government"
Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok expressed gratitude and welcome regarding the government’s announcement on the “establishment of a medical school in Jeollanam-do, which currently has no medical school,” stating, “We will gather opinions within the region to prepare a new establishment plan and coordinate with the government.”
On the 20th, the government announced in the “National Medical Reform Address” its strong commitment to strengthening regional healthcare, stating, “In the case of Jeonnam, a metropolitan area without a medical school, if sufficient regional opinions are gathered and applications are made according to procedures, the government will promptly review and promote the establishment.”
In response, Governor Kim said, “This is an incredibly joyful and moving historic day for the 2 million residents of Jeonnam,” and evaluated, “The path to establishing a medical school, which we have earnestly wished for over the past 30 years, has finally opened.”
Once the “Jeollanam-do National Medical School” is established, it is expected that the 2 million residents will receive timely and proper top-quality medical services and proudly enjoy their rights to health, life, and happiness as citizens of the Republic of Korea.
Governor Kim expressed, “I deeply thank the residents who have sent warm support and encouragement.”

He added, “We will continue to gather regional opinions thoroughly, promptly prepare a plan for the establishment of the Jeonnam National Medical School, and closely coordinate with the government. We repeatedly welcome the government’s promotion of the Jeonnam National Medical School establishment and will do our best to ensure that the medical school in the province successfully establishes itself as the command center of the regional healthcare completion system.”
