Gangseo-gu Deploys Park Security Guards in Parks and Trails for "Crime Prevention"
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced that it has hired 18 "Park Security Guards" and started operations from the 20th to maintain order in parks and trails and to resolve residents' inconveniences.
As crimes with unusual motives targeting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and women are occurring nationwide, concerns about crime are increasing in places with many CCTV blind spots, such as parks and trails.
The Park Security Guards consist of a total of 18 members: 10 patrolling parks and 8 patrolling trails.
The trail security guards were selected based on recommendations from the Gangseo Police Station, choosing individuals with extensive experience in security and safety control, such as retired police officers. The patrol areas include 15 parks with high safety concern indices and frequent complaints related to order maintenance, based on last year's joint safety inspection results with Gangseo Police Station, as well as all 8 trails within the region, including Yeomchangsan, Gungsan, and Bongjesan.
Until November, the park security guards will patrol parks and trails, conducting various crime prevention activities and educating and cracking down on order violations such as drinking and dancing, street vending, and illegal dumping of garbage within the parks. Additionally, they will actively take necessary measures such as first aid and controlling the surroundings in case of safety accidents within the parks.
The district plans to actively support the park security guards by providing protective equipment and conducting safety training to ensure their safety.
