Endlessly Expanding Yeongdeungpo Images, Expressing Yeongdeungpo Nature Linked to Spring Flower Festival
The Entire Exhibition Space as One Artwork... Offering Overwhelming Immersion and Fantastic Experience
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold a "Media Art Festival" expressing the vibrant nature of Yeongdeungpo through light in connection with the spring flower festival at Yeongdeungpo Art Square until May 6.
Under the theme "The Zero Space Nature," this "Media Art Festival" uses the character 영 (永) from Yeongdeungpo as a motif to represent the infinite expansion of Yeongdeungpo's growth (Zero Space) and nature (Nature) such as spring flowers and waterfronts through media.
The "Media Art Festival" will be held for 53 days from March 15 to May 6 at Yeongdeungpo Art Square (B2 floor of Times Square). To offer a unique exhibition that awakens the five senses of residents, the festival plans to showcase "media art," which has recently gained explosive popularity in the cultural and artistic fields and established itself as a cultural trend. Featuring media works realized with cutting-edge video technology, interactive works involving audience participation, and characters within the videos, the entire exhibition space becomes part of the artwork, providing an overwhelming sense of immersion and a fantastic experience.
The works are displayed across three zones: A, R, and T. A total of 18 pieces are exhibited, including grand-scale media art videos, reeds dancing to music, a cello played according to visitors' movements, and a large installation titled "Flowers and Butterflies in Dali." Additionally, in the T zone, there are interactive experiences such as "R401 - The Garden to Find Myself," which explores personality types in connection with the exhibition.
Visitors can experience new sensations that overturn conventional senses and feel like the protagonist in a performance piece.
Especially, in the Times Square plaza, giant sculptures of an octopus and a bear that change colors in real time with various lights are installed, beautifully illuminating Yeongdeungpo’s nights throughout the exhibition period.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "In celebration of the upcoming spring flower festival, we planned digital-based art media art so that many residents can enjoy spring in diverse ways. We will continue to develop Yeongdeungpo as a 'culturally attractive city' leading with its unique competitiveness and differentiated culture and arts through exhibitions, performances, and education."
