Strengthening Rescue Capabilities through Organizational Improvements Including Establishment of Sinan and Heuksan Rescue Teams
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) shared the vision of strengthening public-private rescue and salvage cooperation by attending the 2024 first regular general meeting of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association Jeonnam Western Branch (Chairman Jo Yoon-jae) held at Jindo Sol Beach Resort on the 19th.
About 200 people attended the regular general meeting, including Kim Hee-soo, Jindo County Governor, Jang Young-woo, Chairman of Jindo County Council, Kwon Oh-seong, Chief of Mokpo Maritime Police Station, 60 members of the Jeonnam Western Branch, and about 100 private maritime rescue team members.

Newly appointed Chairman Jo Yoon-jae said, "This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster, and I feel a heavy responsibility as two new rescue teams have been established in the Jeonnam Western Branch," adding, "Holding the regular general meeting in Jindo became an opportunity to pledge that such a tragic accident like the Sewol ferry disaster will never happen again."
The Jeonnam Western Branch, which was previously composed of Mokpo and Naju Rescue Teams and Samhak Salvage Team, was reorganized into four rescue teams and one salvage team with the establishment of the Sinan and Heuksan Rescue Teams through this general meeting. In the future, an education support team will also be established to improve the rescue capabilities of the members.
Kim Hyun-seop was appointed as the new captain of the Sinan Rescue Team, Kim Jeong-hyeok as the new captain of the Heuksan Rescue Team, and Kang Seung-woo was appointed as the new captain of the Mokpo Rescue Team, succeeding Captain Kang Shin-seong.

Meanwhile, the Korea Maritime Rescue Association Jeonnam Western Branch plans to carry out various activities such as joint training with on-site rescue forces, support for responding to ship flooding and fire accidents, and marine cleanup activities at ports and harbors.
