Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju "Ensuring a Safe Walking Environment in Preparation for Jangnokgyo Bridge Reconstruction"
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 17th that it plans to request the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office and Gwangju Metropolitan City to install safe pedestrian facilities ahead of the reconstruction work of Jangnokgyo Bridge.
Jangnokgyo Bridge (located at Dosan-dong 971-3), built in 1979 as a two-lane bridge, has had no separate sidewalks, causing inconvenience for residents crossing the bridge who had to use the railing area.
After 44 years since the bridge was established, following flood damage caused by heavy rain in August 2020, the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office included the reconstruction of Jangnokgyo Bridge in the "Hwangryonggang Songjeong District River Maintenance Project" and began promoting it. The ongoing design service is expected to be completed in the first half of this year, with construction scheduled to start in the second half.
However, until the new bridge's upstream lane is completed, the existing Jangnokgyo Bridge will be used without additional traffic facilities, which is expected to cause traffic congestion and inconvenience for citizens.
