Suwon-si Reduced Food Waste by 9,855 Tons Last Year
Gyeonggi Suwon City reduced food waste by approximately 9,800 tons last year.
On the 17th, Suwon City announced that it held the '2023 Food Waste Generation Suppression Performance Evaluation Committee' on the 15th at the Suwon City Hall video conference room to establish effective food waste reduction policies and promote actual reduction in food waste generation.

View original imageAt the committee meeting, Suwon City explained that it implemented various policies to reduce food waste generation and disposal, including a pilot installation of RFID devices for food waste volume-based billing in general households, the abolition of 50ℓ food waste volume-based billing bags, and promotional activities to reduce food waste. As a result, the amount of food waste generated last year was 89,644 tons, a decrease of 9,855 tons compared to the previous year.
Suwon City plans to actively reflect the results of this evaluation in food waste-related policies to promote substantial reduction of food waste.

A Suwon City official stated, "We will actively promote customized publicity for each source of waste generation using both online and offline methods to encourage voluntary participation and improve awareness among citizens."
