Minjoo Nominates Kwon Hyang-yeop for Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, and Gurye-eul... Incumbent Seo Dong-yong Eliminated
Victory in Primary Despite 'Sacheon Controversy'
Facing Rhee Jeong-hyun of the Ruling Party in the General Election
The Democratic Party of Korea has nominated Kwon Hyang-yeop, former Blue House Secretary for Balanced Personnel, for the Jeonnam Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, and Gurye-eul district. He will face former People Power Party lawmaker Lee Jeong-hyun in the general election.
The party's Central Election Commission announced the results of the strategic regional primary on the afternoon of the 16th at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. The incumbent lawmaker of the district, Seo Dong-yong (first-term), lost to former Secretary Kwon in the primary.
On the 2nd, the Democratic Party designated this area as a women's strategic special zone. Accordingly, they cut off Seo and strategically nominated former Secretary Kwon. However, during the last presidential election, former Secretary Kwon served as deputy head of the spouse office in Lee Jae-myung's campaign team, which raised controversy over 'Sacheon' (favoritism in nominations).
