Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) is expanding the discount rate for sports facility usage fees for large families from the existing 30% to 50%.
The support target will also be expanded from the previous "households with three or more children" to "households with two or more children."
The district revised and promulgated the "Ordinance on the Installation and Operation of Sports Facilities in Yongsan-gu, Seoul (hereinafter referred to as the Sports Facilities Ordinance)" on the 15th, reflecting these changes.
This is to both reduce the child-rearing burden on large families and promote residents' participation in sports activities. It also aims to actively respond to related Seoul city policies.
Under the current district sports facilities ordinance, the discount standard for large families is "a 30% discount for parents with three or more children and their children who hold the Large Family Happiness Card."
The district changed this to "a 50% discount for holders of the Large Family Happiness Card residing in Yongsan-gu and the family members registered on the card."
The Large Family Happiness Card is issued to families with two or more children (with the youngest under 18 years old) registered as residents in Seoul. It is issued as a credit, debit, or identification card, and the mobile card can be downloaded via the "Seoul Wallet" app.
As of March, the sports facilities eligible for discounts include ▲ Yongsan-gu Culture and Sports Center (350 Baekbeom-ro) ▲ Comprehensive Administrative Town Fitness Room (150 Noksapyeong-daero) ▲ Wonhyo-ro Multipurpose Indoor Gymnasium (51-25 Wonhyo-ro 3-ga) ▲ Hangang-ro Small-scale Sports Center (20 Ichon-ro 29-gil) ▲ Namyeong-dong Outdoor Sports Facilities (1-5 Hangang-ro 1-ga) ▲ Hangang-ro Fitness Center (17 Seobinggo-ro).
A district official said, "Following the addition of large families as beneficiaries of reduced fees for community center classes last year, we have further expanded discounts for sports facility usage fees this year," adding, "We will continue to increase the number of facilities offering discounts for large families."
Additionally, through this ordinance revision, the district officially added the "Hyochang Badminton Court (288-1 Hyochang-dong, 814.6㎡)," a donation facility secured through the Hyochang 6 District redevelopment project last year, to the list of public sports facilities.
The facility operates daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is free for all residents to use.
Moreover, the district established a new rental fee for the Culture and Sports Center's alternative gym club (up to KRW 412,500 per month based on 2 hours per day) in the ordinance appendix and extended the operating hours of the Wonhyo-ro Multipurpose Indoor Gymnasium by removing Monday closures, aiming to further increase residents' facility usage rates.
To revise the ordinance, the district established the mayor's policy in January, conducted a legislative notice (20 days), and went through the ordinance and regulation review committee. Last month, the Yongsan-gu Council reviewed and approved it during the 288th extraordinary session.
