Sharing Differentiated Seedling Techniques and Effective Management Methods

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that on the 12th, it conducted cultivation technology training for 12 strawberry farmers at the Gokseong Melon Complex Experience Center to strengthen the overseas export competitiveness of the new variety 'Geumsil' strawberries.

The 'Geumsil' strawberry, developed by the Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services in 2016, is a high-sugar, durable variety that is gaining high popularity not only domestically but also in overseas markets such as Vietnam and Thailand.

Successful production of 'Geumsil' strawberries requires meticulous management from the seedling stage, including pot tray size, seedling bed size, shade net color, and fertilizer management.

This training focused on these detailed aspects, inviting Professor Shin Hyun-gu from Gyeonggi Agricultural Meister University to provide about four hours of theoretical education and consulting on preparatory work for the seedling nursery.

Additionally, the Gokseong Agricultural Technology Center is currently supporting 11 farms with stable strawberry cultivation materials such as honeybees, natural enemies, light net pads, and packaging materials through the "Export Strawberry Quality Advancement Production Technology Pilot Project" led by the Rural Development Administration in 2024.

The county plans to provide continuous education and on-site consulting to ensure that 'Geumsil' strawberries are stably established and grow within the region.

A county official stated, “We are promoting the project with the goal of increasing farmers' income by targeting overseas export markets through the cultivation of the new variety Geumsil strawberries,” adding, “We will support stable cultivation of the new variety strawberries through active cultivation technology guidance and education.”
