On the 14th, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has decided to promote a plan to quadruple-track the SRT section from Suseo Station to Pyeongtaek Jije Station and to establish Guseong Station in response to the demand from the semiconductor belt.
Currently, the 61.1 km section from Suseo Station to Pyeongtaek Jije Station is double-tracked, and the government is considering a plan to quadruple-track this section.
Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin, said, "As a large semiconductor project progresses in Yongin, related material, parts, and equipment companies are expected to gather, causing a sharp increase in rail demand, so quadruple-tracking the SRT is absolutely necessary," adding, "We will work together with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to promote this." The SRT section from Suseo to Dongtan must share tracks with the GTX, which is scheduled to open at the end of this month, and with the rapidly increasing demand, the city believes that the current double tracks will reach their capacity limit.
The mayor also expressed his intention to promote the establishment of Guseong Station on the SRT, saying, "One of the core aspects of the ongoing Giheung-gu Platform City project is to make the area around Guseong Station a transportation hub equipped with a complex transfer facility."
The city expects that if Guseong Station on the SRT is established, it will be possible to build a complex transfer center that encompasses various transportation facilities such as the metropolitan express railway (GTX) Line A Guseong Station, scheduled to open in June, and the 'EX-HUB,' a highway transfer facility within Platform City expected to be completed by the end of 2029, as well as high-speed, city, and metropolitan buses.
Platform City is a project to create a complex city with research facilities for advanced companies in semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment, transportation hubs, and residential facilities on an 830,000-pyeong site in Bojeong and Mabuk-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin. Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation, and Yongin Urban Corporation are jointly promoting the project.

Previously, after the establishment of GTX-A Line Guseong Station was confirmed, the city conducted a preliminary feasibility study and sought ways to link it with the SRT. The city claimed that in its own study, introducing trains that stop simultaneously at high-level and low-level platforms by establishing Guseong Station would increase the cost-benefit ratio to 2.06, but the government had expressed reluctance citing technical issues and other reasons.
