The Yeongilman Cross-Sea Bridge has a design budget of 135 billion KRW reflected in this year's government budget proposal, raising local residents' expectations higher than ever, while the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance are currently in the final stages of consultation to change the total project cost.
Mayor Lee stated, "I hope the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will actively strive to negotiate the change in total project cost so that the design of the Yeongilman Cross-Sea Bridge can be ordered in the first half of the year," and added, "Along with this, I request that the construction of railroads and highways connecting the TK Integrated New Airport, scheduled to open in 2030, and Pohang, the largest economic zone on the East Coast, be reflected in the national plan."
Currently, the Gyeongbu Line is saturated, making additional expansions difficult, and the Gyeongbuk East Coast region has low accessibility to the new airport and Gyeongbuk Provincial Office, making the construction of an internal railroad network in the central Gyeongbuk area and an east-west transversal railroad connecting Chungnam and Chungbuk urgently necessary.
Additionally, a highway directly connected to the new airport is essential for a rapid transportation and logistics system between the new airport and the port.
Mayor Lee also proposed the selection of Pohang for the Corporate Innovation Park public contest project. Pohang is an optimal corporate city site that aligns with national balanced development policies, possessing the Yeongilman Industrial Complex where secondary battery-related companies are concentrated, excellent universities and research institution infrastructure, as well as pleasant living conditions and transportation networks.
Furthermore, considering the long time required for industrial complex permits and infrastructure development, he proposed the third phase of the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex development project to proactively secure industrial land in response to the explosive demand increase from new industry companies such as secondary batteries, hydrogen, and bio.
In addition, Mayor Lee actively requested that the construction of the Pohang?Yeongcheon direct line, part of the Gyeongbuk Province circular railroad section, the improvement project of National Road No. 31 connecting Guryongpo?Gampo?Ulsan, and the improvement project of Local Road No. 68 connecting Cheongha and Gangdong be reflected in the 6th Five-Year Plan for National and Local Road Construction.
