Gangnam-gu to Deliver Lunch Boxes to Senior Centers as New Self-Support Project This Year
Pilot Operation of 3 Senior Centers...Quality Meals at Affordable Prices for Seniors, Job Opportunities Provided for Self-Sufficiency Participants, a Win-Win Situation
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is launching a new self-sufficiency project this year to deliver lunchbox meals to senior centers.
This project is a new approach to address difficulties in providing meals at some senior centers, showcasing an innovative idea linked to self-sufficiency initiatives. Seniors can conveniently enjoy affordable and nutritious lunchboxes, while the self-sufficiency groups that prepare and deliver the food can offer more job opportunities to participants, creating a win-win effect.
Since March 4, a pilot project has started at three senior centers in Segok-dong. Segok-dong was chosen because it has a large number of senior center meal recipients and is close to the self-sufficiency group ‘Eomma Bapsang’ (Mom’s Table) located on the 4th floor of Jagok Culture Center, which prepares and delivers the lunchboxes. Lunchboxes are delivered three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) to a total of 45 seniors, 15 at each center, for 10 days a month. Seniors can enjoy lunch at an affordable price of 6,000 KRW per meal.
Public contributions through self-sufficiency projects are also being promoted by the self-sufficiency group specializing in snacks, Mongttang Mandu, which was launched last year. Gangnam Regional Self-Sufficiency Center and Irwon 1-dong have signed an agreement to check on single-person households in the area through dumpling deliveries. The district plans to expand this project after the senior center lunchbox delivery pilot ends.
Additionally, to strengthen the expertise of self-sufficiency participants, the district will support the costs of obtaining Korean cuisine chef certification using self-sufficiency funds.
