Creating Busan Landmark ... Challenging National Garden status after registration
Busan's Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) is promoting the registration of the ‘Jwagwangcheon Local Garden,’ targeting the ecological stream area of Jwagwangcheon, a symbol of Jeonggwan-eup.

It is well equipped with walking trails, bicycle paths, wildflowers, sculptures, exercise facilities, and various convenience facilities. Nearby are Witgol Park (Rose Learning Center), an outdoor water play area, Gumokjeong Park (Rose Theme Park), and Byeongsan Reservoir (theme trail walking path), making it a resting place for residents and a major local tourist attraction.
The county is actively promoting the registration of ‘Jwagwangcheon Local Garden’ to develop it into a landmark garden hub in Busan that goes beyond Gijang-gun by utilizing the geographical, historical, and ecological resources of Jwagwangcheon.
To register as a local garden, the area must be at least 100,000㎡, with over 40% green space, and include themed gardens. Relevant ordinances, a dedicated garden management organization, and managers must also be established. The county states that there is no difficulty in meeting these requirements.
Starting in the second half of this year, the county plans to begin a feasibility study on the 95.4-hectare ecological stream area of Jwagwangcheon, followed by the enactment of related ordinances and organizational adjustments, aiming for final registration in 2026. Furthermore, after registration as a local garden, the county plans to pursue designation as a national garden after more than three years of solid operation.
Governor Jeong Jong-bok, while inspecting the Jwagwangcheon area, said, “If Jwagwangcheon ecological stream is registered as a local garden, it will not only enhance the image of Gijang-gun as an eco-friendly ecological city but also boost the local economy through active tourism and population inflow.” He urged, “Please make thorough preparations for the registration of the local garden.”
