View original imageThe 'Alberta Korea Forum 2024,' which seeks sustainable core cooperation models and practical tasks in fields such as energy, food, creative industries, and life sciences between Korea and Alberta, Canada, concluded on the 7th. The forum was held on this day with the purpose of setting directions for future growth between Korea and Alberta.
Daniel Smith, Premier of Alberta, Canada, emphasized in his opening remarks via video, "I hope that through this forum, Alberta, which serves as the engine of Canada's economic growth, can develop a mutually beneficial relationship with Korea."
Tamara Mohini, Canadian Ambassador to Korea, said, "Korea holds a very important position in Canada's Indo-Pacific strategy," adding, "As Canada and Korea celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations last year, we also look forward to the next 60 years."

View original imageAt the forum, Edmonton International Airport (EIA), Canada's largest airport, announced its commitment to using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2030. It also presented goals to introduce hydrogen and drones in transportation and logistics and to produce 200,000 MW (megawatts) of energy daily through solar power facilities.
Marion Legris, Head of ESG and Sustainability Strategy at EIA, stated, "We will work to achieve additional carbon neutrality through technological collaboration with Asian countries, including Korea."
Cho Young-jun, Director of the Sustainable Management Institute at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "As non-financial factors such as ESG have become institutional norms in the global market for corporate management, we are supporting companies' carbon neutrality activities," adding, "We will also strive to create a sustainable business environment through cooperation with Alberta."
During the forum, collaboration plans for sustainability were also discussed among companies based in Korea and Alberta, Canada. These included four companies: Altagas, an LPG supplier based in Alberta; and domestic companies Doosan Enerbility, Agtech, and Laharvest.
Randy Toon, Senior Vice President of Altagas, emphasized that they are ready to supply Canadian LPG to Korea, which is free from global supply chain bottlenecks and can drastically reduce transportation time.
Choi Hang-seok, Executive Director of Doosan Enerbility, expressed a desire to cooperate with Alberta in eco-friendly energy businesses such as hydrogen and biogas.
Shin Sang-hoon, CEO of Greenlabs, a domestic agtech startup, said, "We can help efficiently export agricultural products produced in Alberta to Korea and other parts of Asia."
Min Myung-jun, CEO of Laharvest, a company that upcycles byproducts from food manufacturing processes, said, "We recently built a commercial factory in Alberta," adding, "Through cooperation with the Alberta government, we want to present a model case of sustainable food production and consumption and contribute to global food sustainability."

Tristan Sanlegret, Deputy Minister of the Alberta government, said in his closing remarks, "Starting this year, a direct flight route between Korea and Calgary, Alberta, has been established, making visits more efficient," and added, "I am confident that the friendship between Alberta and Korea will deepen further."
