"Bathroom Ceiling Transparency"… Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Conducts Full Inspection of 'Glass Ceiling' Bathrooms
Ceiling Visible Inside Toilet Stall
Temporary Measures for the Toilet
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has taken temporary measures regarding the issue that the interior of a restroom at a rest area on the Pocheon~Hwado Expressway is reflected in the ceiling glass, and has launched an investigation into rest areas nationwide.
On the 6th, the Ministry announced through a press release that it instructed the expressway operating agency to attach an opaque sheet to the ceiling of the restroom at Sudong Rest Area on this expressway to prevent the reflection phenomenon.
Additionally, for a fundamental solution, the ministry plans to review the necessity of ceiling repair or renovation and take further measures later.
The restroom at this rest area, which opened on the 7th of last month, applied an eco-friendly feature that allows sunlight to enter well through the glass ceiling to save on lighting and heating costs.
During the day, sunlight passes through the glass without issue, but at night, the image of users inside the lit toilet stalls is reflected on the glass, causing controversy.
It is known that there are other expressway rest areas with restrooms installed with 'glass ceilings' in the same manner besides this location.
