[Harumanbo] Customized Learning Course on the 'History of Resistance'... Ganghwa Nadeulgil Course 2
Yongjinjin, Yongdudondae, Deokjinjin, and Chojijin
Total 17Km, 5 hours 50 minutes course
The Ganghwa Nadeulgil Course 2 starts at Gapgotdondae, where Course 1 ended. It covers a total distance of 17km, passing through Yongjinjin, Yongdangdondae, Hwadodondae, Odudondae, Yongdudondae, Deokjinjin, and Chojijin, taking about 5 hours and 50 minutes. Since this course passes by military fortresses called 'jin' and 'dondae,' it attracts many students eager to learn about the history of resistance.
Starting from Gapgotdondae and walking about 3km, the first place you reach is Yongjinjin. Yongjinjin oversaw three dondae: Garisan Dondae, Gangdondae, and Yongdangdondae, managing the dondae troops and military supplies. Continuing along the strait, you can see Yongdangdondae, Hwadodondae, Odudondae in sequence. Among these, there is a dondae built on a natural rock protruding like a dragon's head, called Yongdudondae.
Yongdudondae's fortress walls were damaged during the Byeongin Yangyo and Shinmi Yangyo invasions but were restored in 1977 during the Ganghwa National Defense Historic Site Restoration Project. At that time, the 'Ganghwa Battle Site Restoration Monument' was erected; on the front side, you can see the calligraphy of former President Park Chung-hee, and on the back side, an inscription written by Lee Eun-sang and calligraphy by Kim Chung-hyun. In front of this dondae is Sondolmok, where fierce battles took place during the 1866 Byeongin Yangyo and the 1871 Shinmi Yangyo.
Next, passing through Deokjinjin, a strategic point guarding the outer fortress of Ganghwa Strait, you arrive at Chojijin to complete the course. This area was a fierce battleground during modern foreign invasions such as the Byeongin Yangyo, Shinmi Yangyo, and the Japanese warship Unyangho's incursion. Especially at Chojijin, you can see traces of cannonballs on a pine tree and stone wall, showing the intense battle conditions of the time.
