Shinan-gun Hosts 'Island Daffodil Festival' Featuring 2 Million Spring Flowers
Organizing Leading Residents and Assigning Roles to Prepare for the Festival
"Wear Yellow Clothes"... 50% Discount on Admission Fee
The ‘2024 Island Narcissus Festival’ will be spectacularly held for 17 days from the 22nd of this month to the 7th of next month in Seondo-ri, Jido-eup, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang).
According to the county on the 6th, Hyun Bok-soon (91 years old), known as the ‘Narcissus Lady,’ settled in Seondo 30 years ago and gradually planted narcissus flowers around her home, which have now turned the entire Seondo area yellow and started to be decorated as a narcissus garden.
In particular, the flowers that bloom and wither with the seasons have made the remote island Seondo even more special and beautiful through Hyun Bok-soon’s efforts and love.
Last March, tourists visiting the island daffodil festival site are taking photos with daffodils in the background.

On Seondo, where the festival is held, 2.08 million narcissus bulbs of 17 varieties including Acle and Pimpernel are planted over an area of 13.4 hectares, creating a spectacular sight with 2 million blooming narcissus flowers. Visitors can experience a special Sinan dyed yellow with the scent of spring flowers.
The admission fees are △ 6,000 KRW for general or group visitors △ 3,000 KRW with a 50% discount when wearing yellow clothes △ free for children, adolescents, soldiers, and those exempted from admission fees as stipulated by ordinance to view the narcissus garden.
The 1004 Island Sinan gift certificate refunds 5,000 KRW for general or group visitors and 3,000 KRW when wearing yellow clothes, and using this helps activate the island residents’ economy.
The Island Narcissus Festival, promoted through the voluntary participation of Seondo residents, has become more diverse than last year. Residents have formed participation organizations and taken roles in their respective fields to prepare the festival to further brighten their village.
This participation by residents breathes new life into the festival, strengthens community cohesion, and makes the atmosphere of the Island Narcissus Festival even more special.
Park Young-sik, CEO of Seondo Narcissus Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, said, “With the voluntary participation of Seondo residents, this will be a catalyst for shifting from an administration-centered festival to a resident-centered festival,” adding, “We hope you feel the beauty and warmth of Sinan through the Island Narcissus Festival.”
Park Woo-ryang, Governor of Sinan-gun, said, “We are striving to allow more diverse people to enjoy the festival through a 50% discount policy on admission fees when wearing yellow clothes,” and added, “The Island Narcissus Festival has established itself as an important event contributing to the development and income generation of island areas.”
