Nowon-gu Signs Business Agreement with Local Organizations to Practice Carbon Neutrality
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 5th at 5 p.m. that it signed a business agreement for carbon neutrality practice between the Nowon Environmental Foundation, the 19-dong Residents' Autonomy Committees, and the Residents' Autonomy Support Group at the Nowon-gu Office Planning Situation Room.
This agreement aims to establish a cooperative system among the 19-dong Residents' Autonomy Committees, the Residents' Autonomy Support Group, and the Nowon Environmental Foundation, and to concretize measures for achieving carbon neutrality. The goal is to activate key strategies for Nowon-gu's leap toward a carbon-neutral city, including ▲creating carbon-neutral villages in the 19 dongs and ▲promoting voluntary carbon neutrality practices led by residents through public-private cooperation.
The main cooperation contents focus on "continuous mutual cooperation for realizing carbon neutrality and expanding resident participation," including ▲providing workforce training and educational opportunities for carbon neutrality implementation ▲efforts and support cooperation to reflect carbon neutrality agendas in residents' autonomy execution projects ▲building and collaborating on a local carbon neutrality network.
Through this agreement, the district expects a synergy effect between the public and private sectors, with all dongs practicing carbon neutrality centered on the Residents' Autonomy Committees.
Starting with this agreement, the district plans to carry out the 'Carbon-Neutral Village Creation Project' together with the Residents' Autonomy Committees of each dong. In the future, they will collaborate on ▲conducting joint carbon neutrality campaigns across the 19 dongs and ▲supporting the discovery of carbon neutrality agendas for residents' autonomy execution projects in 2025.
Additionally, local events such as dong festivals will be planned as carbon-neutral events, monitored, and contribute to minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "The transition to Carbon-Neutral Nowon is important with local residents taking the lead in realizing carbon neutrality," and added, "To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the public and private sectors will cooperate to provide maximum support for residents' carbon neutrality practices."
