Groundbreaking Ceremony for Gwangju AI Education Center Construction... Targeted Opening in January 2026
The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the tentatively named "Gwangju AI Education Center," which will be responsible for various AI-related experiences and education for students in the Gwangju area, was held.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education on the 5th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the "tentatively named Gwangju AI Education Center construction project," aimed at establishing a systematic and integrated AI-related experience and education platform tailored to the curricula of different school levels (elementary, middle, and high school), was held.
A total of 40.7 billion KRW will be invested in the establishment of the Gwangju AI Education Center, which is part of the 4th term direct pledge projects and a key task in Gwangju education.
Located at 5-25, Ochi-dong, Buk-gu, the facility will have one basement floor and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 9,129 square meters. Completion is scheduled for October 2025, with an opening planned for January 2026.
After opening, the Gwangju AI Education Center will be responsible for developing Gwangju-style AI curricula linked to subjects, creative experiential activities, the free semester system, and the high school credit system. It will also oversee various experiences and education for students in the AI field, a core future technology.
To this end, an AI Theme Hall (project-based education and experience spaces by theme), AI Education Hall (spaces for learning and creating artificial intelligence), and AI Seumteo (specialized AI education and research spaces) will be established for diverse student experiences. Outdoor spaces will include an autonomous driving practice field, an outdoor drone practice field, and an AI experience zone.
The Metropolitan Office of Education expects the Gwangju AI Education Center to serve as a key institution for AI education research in the local community, promoting cooperation between schools and the community.
