Suncheon City Selected as a 'Pet-Friendly Tourism City'
Secured 1 Billion KRW in National Funding Over 4 Years
Promoting Programs Including 'Pet-Friendly Travel'
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it has been finally selected in the ‘2024 Pet-Friendly Tourism City’ contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
The ‘Pet-Friendly Tourism City’ is a city where people can freely travel with their pets while utilizing various local tourism resources, creating a place where pet owners, non-pet owners, and pets can happily coexist.
Following this selection, a total of 2.4 billion KRW, including 1 billion KRW of national funding, will be invested to carry out the project over four years until 2027 after expert consulting.
Under the theme of ‘Adding a Pet Paradise to Suncheon,’ the city plans to expand its excellent pet travel infrastructure throughout Suncheon, centering on Suncheonman National Garden and Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve.
The main project contents include developing pet tourism content utilizing local resources, establishing accommodation systems for extended pet tourism, and promoting pet-friendly travel initiatives.

A city official stated, “Suncheon has continuously made various efforts to establish a foundation for pet-friendly travel,” adding, “We will strive to activate pet-friendly travel, a latest travel trend, to contribute to the development of local tourism and the regional economy.”
