[Invest&Law] Attorney Kim Hugon Appointed as Chairman of KT Compliance Management Oversight Committee
Former Seoul High Prosecutor General, Mainly Active in the ICT Sector
Also Considered for Broadcasting Commission Chairmanship
Kim Hu-gon, former Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and representative lawyer of the law firm Robaex (age 59, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 25, photo), has been appointed as the chairman of the Compliance Committee, KT Group's compliance management oversight body.
KT Group announced on the 6th that Lawyer Kim will be officially appointed as the chairman of the KT Compliance Committee within March. Kim received employment approval from the Government Officials Ethics Committee's review of retired public officials' employment on the 29th of last month.
The Compliance Committee is an independent body operated by KT since 2020 to strengthen compliance management, deliberating and deciding on major compliance-related matters. Until now, KT has appointed external legal professionals as non-standing chairpersons.
Lawyer Kim is from Namhae, Gyeongnam, and graduated from Kyungdong High School and Dongguk University with a degree in law. He passed the bar exam in 1993 and began his career as a prosecutor at the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office in 1996. He later served as head of the Information and Communications Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, chief of the Special 1st Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, director of the Planning and Coordination Office at the Ministry of Justice, chief prosecutor of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, and chief prosecutor of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office. He was also recommended as one of the four candidates for the first Prosecutor General under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, along with former Judicial Research and Training Institute President Yeo Hwan-seop (age 56, class 24) and former Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office Chief Lee Du-bong (age 60, class 25).
Kim, who retired in September 2022 after serving as Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, has continued his activities in the ICT field, including serving as chairman of the Data Dispute Mediation Committee under the Ministry of Science and ICT. He was also mentioned as a potential candidate for chairman of the Korea Communications Commission last year.
