Hyundai Motor Launches New Ioniq 5... Increased Driving Range with Same Price
Hyundai Motor Company launched the facelifted version of its dedicated electric vehicle Ioniq 5 on the 4th. It is a new model released after about three years since its first debut in 2021, increasing the battery capacity to extend the driving range while keeping the price unchanged.
The battery capacity of the new Ioniq 5 is 84.0 kWh. It was initially 72.6 kWh at launch, then increased to 77.4 kWh with the next year's model update, and now it has been increased once again. This is the 4th generation battery. The battery is considered a core component of electric vehicles as it directly affects driving range and charging performance.
The driving range on a single charge has increased from 458 km to 485 km (combined, based on the 2WD model). The fast charging speed has also been improved. It is equipped with the next-generation infotainment system ccNC and has expanded the scope of over-the-air (OTA) wireless software updates. Second-row side airbags have been added, and the body structure has been reinforced.
Various assistance and convenience features such as front, side, and rear parking collision avoidance assist have been newly introduced. Frequency-sensitive shock absorbers have been installed to reduce vibrations coming from the road, improving driving performance. The design has been refined in various areas including the skid plate under the bumper, wheels, and spoiler. Inside, the layout has been updated by relocating buttons on the center console and the smartphone charging pad.
The price remains the same as the previous model. Based on the long-range version, the E-Light starts at 52.4 million KRW (after electric vehicle tax benefits), Exclusive at 54.1 million KRW, and Prestige at 58.85 million KRW. An N Line, which incorporates high-performance car design elements both inside and out, has also been added.
The facelifted model of the small SUV Kona Electric and the design-specialized package model Ioniq 6 Black Edition were also launched on the same day. The 2024 Kona Electric starts at 43.52 million KRW for the base premium model. The 2024 model year Ioniq 6, which is a facelift, has lowered prices by 2 million KRW for each major trim, starting from 50 million KRW for the Standard model Exclusive and 50.6 million KRW for the Long Range E-Light.
