Yongin City Improves Traffic Systems at 13 Bottleneck and Hazardous Roads
Expand Bottleneck Road Sections and Install Roundabouts in Hazardous Areas
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 29th that it will improve the traffic system of 13 roads within the region this year by adjusting lanes in bottleneck sections and installing roundabouts in accident-prone areas to alleviate citizen inconvenience caused by chronic road congestion.
Before constructing new roads, which require significant costs and time, the city aims to improve the traffic system in a short period and at a low cost by securing lanes through the use of national and public land or road surface adjustments.
First, on Seongsan-ro, a 1 km section between Yeosugok Tunnel and Yurim 1 Intersection, which connects Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu from Everland to Yongin City Hall and Yeokbuk District, one additional straight lane will be added. This section has one lane in each direction and has experienced severe congestion during rush hours due to vehicles coming from the Yeongdong Expressway Maseong IC area.
On Yongin University Road, a 200 m section from the main gate of Yongin University toward City Hall, one lane will be added by utilizing national and public land. The city expects that once completed, with four lanes in both directions, the flow of vehicles moving from Idong and Namsa-eup to the Cheoin-gu downtown area will become smoother.
To improve visibility for vehicles entering Jungbu-daero via Jungbu-daero 1158beon-gil from Samga Elementary School, an acceleration lane will be installed on the southeast side of the Samga-dong Administrative Town Entrance Intersection on Jungbu-daero, and a left-turn waiting lane will be newly created at Seonbongsa Entrance Intersection, where congestion occurs due to left-turning vehicles. Between Jiseok Station in Giheung-gu and Gugalkyo Intersection, a right-turn lane will be added, and at Hasonggokgyo in Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, a lane toward Suji-gu Office will be added.
Road improvements to reduce safety accidents will also be made. Safety facilities such as ground traffic lights and anti-skid measures will be installed at Jukjeon Intersection in Suji-gu and the Central Police Substation Three-way Intersection in Cheoin-gu, where traffic accidents frequently occur. A roundabout will be installed at the Baegam-myeon Administrative Welfare Center Intersection in Cheoin-gu, and diagonal crosswalks will be installed at Kimryangjang Station Intersection, Hanseong CC Intersection in Mabuk-dong, Giheung-gu, Heungdeok 8·9 Complex Intersection, and Seongbok Library Intersection in Suji-gu, respectively.
