The Democratic Party of Korea's Strategic Nomination Committee announced on the 26th the designation of Daejeon Jung-gu and Gyeonggi Seongnam-si Bundang-gu Gap as new strategic electoral districts, and the placement of former Senior Superintendent Lee Ji-eun in Seoul Mapo-gu Gap, among other results for candidate selection in four strategic electoral districts. The candidate selection results for Jung-gu Seongdong-gu Gap, which has attracted attention due to former Blue House Chief of Staff Lim Jong-seok's intention to run, and the so-called 'Three Female Warriors' Chu Mi-ae, Jeon Hyun-hee, and Lee Eon-ju, will be concluded on the following day, the 27th.
On the same day, Ahn Kyu-baek, chairman of the Democratic Party's Strategic Nomination Committee, met with reporters at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in the afternoon to announce the results of the 4th Strategic Nomination Committee meeting. With Representative Hwang Un-ha's declaration of non-candidacy, Daejeon Jung-gu was added as a strategic electoral district. Subsequently, Gyeonggi Seongnam-si Bundang-gu Gap, where People Power Party candidate Ahn Cheol-soo is running, was designated as a strategic electoral district, and former National Assembly Secretary-General Lee Kwang-jae was strategically nominated as the candidate.
In Seoul Yeongdeungpo-gu Gap, former Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il was strategically nominated as the sole candidate, and in Seoul Mapo-gu Gap, former Senior Superintendent Lee Ji-eun, the 11th recruited talent, was strategically nominated as the sole candidate. Seoul Mapo-gu Gap, where former Senior Superintendent Lee Ji-eun is running, is the constituency of Democratic Party Representative Roh Woong-rae. Representative Roh has been on a hunger strike for five days in protest of his constituency being designated as a strategic district.
Chairman Ahn said, "Former Senior Superintendent Lee Ji-eun has lived in the Mapo-gu Gap area for 22 years and has a work history in the area," adding, "This conclusion was reached after considering her expertise and local ties."
He also announced that three candidates?Kim Kyung-man, a proportional representative from Gwangju Seo-gu Eul; Yang Bu-nam, the Democratic Party's legal advisor; and Kim Kwang-jin, former Deputy Mayor of Culture and Economy of Gwangju City?would be nominated as candidates for a primary without a runoff. Furthermore, he mentioned that a 100% public primary would be held by recruiting a young candidate for Yongin-si Jeong-eun in Gyeonggi Province.
He added, "Although there was in-depth discussion regarding Seoul Jung-gu Seongdong-gu Gap, no conclusion was reached today," and "We will have further discussions tomorrow and announce the results." When asked about the status of the 'Three Female Warriors' (Chu Mi-ae, Jeon Hyun-hee, Lee Eon-ju), he said, "There was no discussion on that matter today," but added, "I think there will be in-depth discussions on that part by tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Representative Roh Woong-rae went through a procedure to explain his request to the Strategic Nomination Committee members to withdraw the designation of the strategic electoral district just before the committee's announcement on the same day. In a phone call with Asia Economy, he claimed, "The strategic candidates were announced less than an hour after I made my explanation," and said, "(The explanation procedure) was completely a mere formality." He stated, "This is an unfair nomination, so I cannot accept it and will continue to fight."
