Ongoing Market Visits... "Can Feel It Through Local Experience"
Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, visited Wonju, Gangwon Province for the second time since his inauguration and announced cultural pledges including the eradication of ticket scalping for performances. Chairman Han actively supported the prospective candidates Park Jeong-ha (Wonju Gap) and Kim Wan-seop (Wonju Eul), who are running in Wonju, and also listened to the stories of merchants, cultural artists, and other citizens.
On the 26th, Chairman Han visited Wonju and held a meeting with small business owners, cultural artists, and citizens at a cafe in the city center, saying, "This is the first time we are announcing pledges outside of Seoul and the metropolitan area," and "We want to express how much we love Gangwon Province and Wonju."
He continued, "The People Power Party aims to eradicate ticket scalping for performances and sports games to promote culture that everyone can enjoy together," explaining, "When tickets are sold online, macros interfere with normal ticketing, and scalped tickets are sold at inflated prices. We plan to institutionally block such practices." He emphasized, "Until now, ticket scalping was considered a minor offense with fines up to 200,000 won. We will change the regulations through the law to impose heavier penalties." Chairman Han also unveiled other measures to eradicate ticket scalping, such as a ticket scalping transaction monitoring system and an integrated ticket scalping reporting system.
The People Power Party will also expand the support targets for the 'Youth Culture and Arts Pass.' Yoo Ui-dong, the Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, said at the meeting, "Currently, the Youth Culture and Arts Pass supports those up to 19 years old, but we will gradually expand the target to 24 years old," adding, "This will not only encourage the younger generation to frequently engage with culture and arts but also build a social foundation for continuous enjoyment of the arts as their social and economic status rises."
They also announced a pledge to support the 'First Step Culture and Arts Education Voucher' for vulnerable children and adolescents. Yoo said, "As of 2022, the average monthly private education expense for arts and physical education among elementary, middle, and high school students is about 98,000 won," and "We will provide culture and arts education vouchers worth 300,000 won per year per person to children and adolescents aged 5 to 18 who are basic livelihood security recipients or belong to the lower-income bracket."
Chairman Han then visited Wonju Free Market and listened to the difficulties of merchants through a meeting with the merchants' association president. At the meeting, he said, "I said I would come to Wonju at least three times, but now I want to come four or five more times," expressing, "I want to improve the lives of Wonju citizens even a little and walk together with them."
He added, "Some say, 'Why do you always visit markets? Go somewhere else too,' but I visit markets because each region has different circumstances, and visiting markets allows me to understand the region well and feel it firsthand," emphasizing the importance of market visits.
