The Air Force NCO Officer Training Corps was uniquely established at Yeungjin College in 2015 and has been focusing on nurturing Air Force maintenance NCOs who will play a central role in defending the airspace of the Republic of Korea.
The 38 sergeants commissioned that day (including 5 female candidates) all completed a 9-week basic military training during the summer and winter breaks over the past three semesters at the Air Force Education Command in Jinju, Gyeongnam.
Additionally, they completed major courses such as Military Science and Aviation Maintenance during the semester, and especially honed their expertise by gaining practical experience in frontline maintenance units, growing into top Air Force aviation maintenance specialists.
Commander Choi Chun-song of the Air Force Education Command urged, “Continue to strive and advance diligently to become elite NCOs needed by the nation, the people, and the Air Force.” At the commissioning ceremony, Sergeant Kim Min-seong received the Minister of National Defense Award, Sergeant Choi Seong-hwi received the Chief of Staff Award, and Sergeant Kang Ji-wan received the Education Commander's Award, among other honors.
Sergeant Kim Min-seong, who received the Minister of National Defense Award, said, “Having grown up watching my father, an Air Force Warrant Officer, I have nurtured the dream of becoming an Air Force NCO. Now, following in my father's footsteps to protect the airspace of the Republic of Korea in the Air Force is a great honor,” adding confidently, “I will not lose my initial resolve and will become an NCO who sacrifices and serves the people and the Air Force.”
A notable figure among the newly commissioned sergeants attracted attention. Sergeant Kang Ji-wan became part of an aviation maintenance family alongside her father, who is an active-duty Air Force Warrant Officer, and Sergeant Choi Seong-hwi (female), whose father is an active-duty Army Master Sergeant, was also commissioned as a sergeant, making them a father-daughter NCO pair.
A three-generation Air Force NCO family was also born. Sergeant Jeong Ye-hwon, commissioned that day, set a remarkable record as a “three-generation Air Force family,” with his grandfather having served as an Air Force sergeant and his father having retired as an Air Force staff sergeant.
