The Heukseokgol Dangsang Cultural Festival began over 100 years ago when village women gathered small amounts of rice to hold a feast.
The Dangsanjejeon Committee officially restored this tradition. On Jeongwol Daeboreum, they have performed a ritual with village residents to pray that the village’s communal well can be safely used by residents throughout the year, earnestly wishing for the health and longevity of families and the peace and safety of the village.
The event, prepared through the cooperation of self-governing organizations and organized planning, offered a variety of attractions including pungmul street performances, ritual ceremonies, and samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet). After the meal, attendees shared bureom (nuts) and concluded the festival by wishing for safety throughout the year.
Song Hyunjong, chairman of the Heukseokgol Dangsanjejeon Committee, said, "I am very pleased to have successfully held the Heukseokgol Dangsang Cultural Festival and to continue the legacy of our village’s representative traditional cultural event." He added, "I would like to thank the residents who visited, and we will take good care of the Dangsang tree that has protected Seoseohak-dong so that our traditional culture can be passed down."
