Court: "Multiple Assault Records... No Settlement Reached"
A man in his 40s who repeatedly sprayed a liquid suspected to be urine in front of his neighbor's apartment door and assaulted the neighbor was sentenced to prison.
On the 24th, the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 15 (Judge Nam Hyo-jeong) announced that it sentenced Mr. A (49), who was indicted for assault and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, to one year in prison. The court also ordered Mr. A to complete 40 hours of a stalking treatment program.
Mr. A was tried on charges of stalking by repeatedly spraying a liquid suspected to be urine in front of the apartment door of his neighbor Mr. B (48) in the hallway on the 9th floor of an apartment in Namdong-gu, Incheon, from May 11 to June 3 of last year.
Additionally, on June 4 at around 8:10 a.m., when Mr. B opened his door to go outside and stepped into the hallway, Mr. A approached him while cursing. He also assaulted Mr. B by kicking a plastic chair to hit him while showing tattoos on his body wearing only underwear. The reason why Mr. A committed the urine spraying and assault is unknown.
Judge Nam pointed out, "The defendant has multiple prior convictions for violent crimes and committed the offense during the probation period, and no settlement was reached with the victim." Regarding the sentencing, the judge explained, "Consideration was given to the fact that the defendant admitted his wrongdoing."
Meanwhile, cases of neighbors holding grudges and committing acts of vandalism such as smearing feces or red pepper paste on apartment doors continue to occur. In April of last year, the Daegu District Court Criminal Division 1 (Chief Judge Bae Gwan-jin) sentenced Mr. C (60), who was charged with damaging property by smearing feces on a neighbor’s apartment door handle, to six months in prison with a one-year probation.
Mr. C was tried for smearing feces on the door handle and wall of the house of a neighbor who habitually spat phlegm and cursed at residents in the villa where he lived.
