Cutoff Lee Sujin leaves Democratic Party... "Regrets supporting Lee Jae-myung"
Strong Opposition to Dongjak's Designation as Strategic District
"After Reading Baekhyeon-dong Verdict, Suspected Lee Jae-myung of Lying"
Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Su-jin declared her resignation from the party on the 22nd. This decision was made immediately after the party's nomination management committee designated the Seoul Dongjak-gu Eul electoral district as a strategic constituency, effectively excluding her from the primary (cut-off).
Upon hearing the news that her district had been selected as a strategic constituency, Lee held a press conference and announced, "I will leave the Democratic Party."
She raised concerns about mysterious opinion polls conducted in the region. Explaining the trend in approval ratings, Lee said, "Since Dongjak Eul is not a strategic district, a primary should be the principle. However, opinion polls have been continuously conducted for third-party candidates who did not even apply for the primary, and articles about strategic nominations have shaken the district recklessly." She criticized, "When I tried to understand the situation, the party leadership responsible for providing answers only turned a blind eye."
Lee's press conference resembled a denunciation rally against Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. She said, "I have always supported and helped Leader Lee Jae-myung at every crisis and worked harder than anyone else to make him the party leader of today," adding, "I now regret it." Lee pointed out, "After seeing the Baekhyeon-dong ruling last week, I could not shake the thought that Leader Lee Jae-myung was lying to the public. Right after the presidential election defeat, I visited Leader Lee and suggested that prosecutorial reform must be accomplished within two months, but he did not move. Despite the party's failure to reform and increasing difficulties due to the personnel failures of the emergency committee chair and the party innovation committee chair, Leader Lee Jae-myung did not take any responsibility."
At the end of the press conference, Lee said, "We must remove from the Democratic Party the human meanness, betrayal, incompetence, the cruelty of recklessly discarding and abandoning people, and the injustice of shifting responsibility for mistakes onto the weak." She added, "I hope that today's collapse can be a small seed for the birth of a new party where democracy and reform succeed."

Regarding her future course of action, she told reporters, "I will think about it from now on," but also stated, "If residents and party members ask me to run for victory, I am willing to protect and respect their affection and efforts." This implies that she may run as an independent or in another capacity if requested by the residents.
