Oh Young-soon, a member of the Nam-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, won the Grand Prize for the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Dark Tourism in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City" at the "20th Korea Local Autonomy Academic Society Excellent Ordinance Awards Ceremony" held at Soongsil University Hankyungjik Memorial Hall on the 23rd.
The Korea Local Autonomy Academic Society stated, "We aim to contribute to the development of local autonomy by discovering excellent ordinances among those proposed or revised by local council members, selecting councils and executive bodies that have actively carried out legislative activities for commendation, thereby boosting the morale of local councils and members, encouraging healthy competition among local councils, and promoting substantial progress in the field of local autonomy."
Councilor Oh said, "I hope that by integrating unfortunate historical events with the tourism industry, we can remember and overcome the painful past rather than leaving it behind as a sorrowful memory, and that it will contribute to the development of tourism in Nam-gu." She added, "I will continue to listen to the voices of the residents, communicate regularly, and strive to carry out legislative activities that help the development of Nam-gu."
