On the 22nd, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced that it sent letters of appreciation to 116 descendants of independence activists to express deep respect and gratitude on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement.

View original imageThe letter instills pride in Changwon as the birthplace of the anti-Japanese independence movement, having produced 188 independence activists, and as a proud region that overcame a dark era with a strong national spirit and pioneered a brilliant future history. It also expresses gratitude, stating that the reason we can enjoy freedom and prosperity in an independent country today is thanks to the noble spirit and sacrifices of our ancestors.
Additionally, the city is focusing on promoting awareness among citizens in various forms such as installing commemorative message banners, broadcasting on electronic display boards, using the Bus Information System (BIS), and SNS throughout major city areas to remind people of the significance of the March 1st Movement.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “True veterans’ honor means not forgetting the contributions of those who sacrificed and devoted themselves to the country, and repaying them by opening a future of welfare and prosperity.” He added, “Changwon Special City will continue to strive to widely spread a culture of respect and honor for national veterans and their families.”

Meanwhile, the 105th anniversary March 1st Movement commemorative patriotic martyrs memorial ceremony and remembrance event, honoring the achievements of patriots who dedicated themselves to the restoration of the homeland, will be held at 11 a.m. on March 1st at the Changwon City Patriotic Martyrs Shrine (located in Jinjeon-myeon, Masanhappo-gu).
