Gurye Sansuyu Flower Festival Opens on March 9

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the 25th Gurye Sansuyu Flower Festival will be held under the theme "In Search of Eternal Love" from March 9 to 17 at the Jirisan Hot Spring tourist area in Sandong-myeon.

On March 9 at 10 a.m., the Bountiful Harvest Ceremony will begin at the Sansuyu seedling site, followed by the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. at the main event venue.

In the opening performance, singers Park Seo-jin, Yoyomi, Jin Simon, Hyun Jin-woo, and Lee Jung-ok will heat up the spring night.

This year’s festival aims to specialize in Gurye Sansuyu content and will feature 29 programs across 5 categories.

Local singers’ trot performances (Sound of Spring Coming), various busking performances (Spring Day Busking, Love Busking, Eternal Busking), and a lively Nongak (traditional Korean percussion music) event will enhance the festival’s excitement. The Sansuyu fruit peeling contest and Sansuyu flower wall path walk will be the representative programs.

At Suseok Park, children can experience archery and traditional games. Visitors can also enjoy free tastings of Sansuyu tea and traditional tea, as well as participate in Sansuyu rice cake pounding experiences.

A variety of sales events will be held at the local agricultural specialty product market, the New Vitality Plus project promotion booth, the Gurye Self-Support Center specialty product sales booth, and food trucks.

Visitors can participate in the Sansuyu flower path walk using the health promotion app WalkOn and join the CashWalk stamp tour, a cooperative program of the Seomjingang River integrated tourism belt (Gwangyang, Hadong, Gokseong, Gurye).

This year, Gurye-gun will hold an eco-friendly festival in collaboration with environmental organizations such as the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, Korea Environment Corporation, and the National Park Service. Support will be provided for restaurants at the venue to use reusable containers instead of disposable ones, and campaigns to reduce disposable product use will also be conducted.

Additionally, the county plans to increase shuttle bus services so that visitors can enjoy the Sansuyu groves in Sangwi, Hawi, Wolgye, and Pyeongchon villages.

To alleviate traffic congestion, a large bus parking lot and temporary parking lot next to the Sandong-myeon tourist information center will be operated, and a camping car zone for campers will be set up at Gwansan Stadium (730 Gwansan-ri, Sandong-myeon, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do).

From March 16 to 18, the national archery competition commemorating the Sansuyu Flower Festival will be held at Jisanjeong in Sandong-myeon, marking the festival’s finale.

County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “I hope many visitors from across the country will meet the herald of spring, the Sansuyu flower, and take home the energy of eternal love.”

Meanwhile, the Gurye 300-ri Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled to be held for three days from March 29 to 31 at Seosicheon Sports Park and the Muncheok-myeon area.
