Anseong-si to Provide Basic Income to Farmers Using Local Currency
"Coexistence with Local Small Business Owners"
300,000 Won per Half-Year, Total 600,000 Won
Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it will pay the basic income for farmers, which is given to local farmers, in local currency to promote coexistence between farmers and small business owners.
To this end, Anseong City plans to pay a total of 600,000 won in local currency, 300,000 won each half-year, to eligible farmers through biannual applications.
The basic income for farmers is a system implemented by Gyeonggi Province since 2021 to guarantee farmers' right to livelihood and provide social compensation for the public value of agriculture and rural areas. Last year, Anseong City paid a total of 600,000 won each to 18,413 farmers as basic income for farmers. The city expects that paying in local currency this time will also help revitalize the local economy and support small business owners in traditional markets and alleyway commercial districts.
The basic income for farmers in local currency can be used at local currency affiliated stores in Anseong with annual sales under 1 billion won and at local agricultural and livestock cooperatives. However, the use of local currency is restricted at large retail stores and entertainment establishments.
