Korea-UK Joint Team Wins Overall Championship in 'International Cyber Defense Exercise'
NIS, Army, and National Security Technology Research Institute Participation
The joint team of South Korea and the United Kingdom won first place in the international cyber defense exercise 'DCM (Defence Cyber Marvel)'.
The National Intelligence Service announced on the 21st that it won the overall championship at DCM, representing the Republic of Korea together with the Army Cyber Operations Center and the National Security Research Institute.
DCM is an event hosted by the British Army Cyber Association. It began as a domestic military exercise in 2022 and was elevated to an international exercise starting last year.
South Korea participated in the exercise for the first time this year as part of the 'Korea-UK Strategic Partnership' established under the 'Downing Agreement' between the South Korean and UK leaders in November last year. They formed a joint defense team with the UK’s 16th Signal Brigade.
The exercise saw competition among 46 teams from 17 countries including Japan, Germany, and France.
The Korea-UK joint defense team remotely accessed the UK’s local systems from the Pangyo National Cyber Security Cooperation Center to participate in the exercise.
During the Lunar New Year holiday from the 9th to the 11th of this month, the team went through preparation stages such as team building and strategy formulation. In the main exercise from the 12th to the 16th, they efficiently defended against simulated cyberattacks on military, satellite, medical, and government networks, securing the overall championship.
