Icheon-si Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Overnight Parking of Trucks and Buses
Areas with Frequent Complaints Mainly Along Roadsides and Residential Neighborhoods
Gyeonggi-do Icheon City will conduct intensive crackdowns starting next month on cargo trucks and charter buses that park overnight outside designated garages. This is because habitual nighttime road parking by large vehicles not only obstructs traffic flow but also causes accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians.
Cargo trucks and charter buses must park in designated garages according to the law, and violations result in a 5-day business suspension or a fine of up to 200,000 KRW. However, the city explained that continuous complaints have been reported due to illegally parked vehicles near apartments, schools, and residential back roads.
The city plans to focus crackdowns mainly on illegally parked vehicles on roadsides that significantly impact citizen safety and vehicle traffic, as well as areas with numerous complaints, rather than indiscriminate enforcement. Along with this, daytime patrol inspections will also be conducted, issuing warning notices to illegally parked vehicles as a corrective measure.
Meanwhile, last year, 281 cases of overnight parking (parking for more than one hour between midnight and 4 a.m.) of cargo trucks were recorded in the Icheon area.
