Yoo Jae-young, CEO of GS Power, has been inaugurated as the chairman of the Korea District Heating Association.
The Korea District Heating Association held its 21st regular general meeting on the 20th at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where the inauguration ceremony for Chairman Yoo, who will serve as the 11th chairman, took place.
In his inaugural speech, Chairman Yoo said, “I feel a heavy responsibility taking on the chairman position during the major energy industry transition toward carbon neutrality,” adding, “Although the conditions surrounding the district energy industry are challenging due to the deterioration of KEPCO’s financial structure and the freeze on public utility rates, let us unite and respond proactively as industry leaders.”

He continued, “Improving the management environment of member companies is of utmost importance, so we must actively address changes in the electricity market system, heat tariffs, and the emissions trading system,” and added, “With the enactment of the Special Act on the Activation of Distributed Energy, the association’s role in institutionalizing the specific benefits of distributed energy is also very important.”
Chairman Yoo also stated, “The industry must do its best to supply heat and electricity to the public stably,” and said, “Let us all work together to become a warm and respected district energy industry by leading efforts to alleviate the heating cost burden on vulnerable groups and resolving welfare blind spots.”

On this day, the association selected ‘Strengthening Industrial Competitiveness,’ ‘Revitalizing and Expanding the Industry Base,’ and ‘Enhancing Internal and External Cooperation’ as key tasks for 2024, and decided to strive to improve the management environment of member companies and secure the competitiveness of the district energy industry through detailed business plans for this year. Additionally, through the formation of a social contribution fund steering committee, the association plans to promote the expansion of district energy welfare and improve public services.
